Shereen Marisol Meraji joined NAHJ New England on July 14, 2022, for our third En hora buena event! Moderated by NPR’s Karen Grigsby Bates.
Shereen Marisol Meraji is an audio producer and reporter who has told stories with sound for twenty years, most recently as the co-host of NPR’s critically acclaimed Code Switch podcast. As a founding member of the Code Switch team, Meraji has reported on issues of race, racism and racial identity formation since 2013. In 2020, Apple Podcasts named Code Switch its first-ever podcast of the year. Currently, Meraji’s an assistant professor of race in journalism, educating the next generation of audio journalists while continuing to publish her own work. Much of her work is inspired by her experience growing up in California as the child of an Iranian father and Puerto Rican mother. When Meraji’s not telling stories that help us better understand the people we share this planet with, she’s salsa/samba dancing, cooking or kicking around a soccer ball.

More on NAHJ New England’s En hora buena:
In Spanish, en hora buena has a double meaning. It translates to “the good hour” but is also a congratulatory expression. Through this series, we will celebrate and support Latinx talent and other journalists of color through an energetic slate of lunch-hour chats with prominent journalists, building momentum toward the national NAHJ+NABJ convention in August.
Together, we will strengthen and inspire early-career and experienced talent with webinars on topics such as podcasting; journalism and technology; media entrepreneurship; and stepping into leadership.
Maria Hinojosa joined NAHJ New England on June 16, 2022, for our second En hora buena event!
Hinojosa is the founder, president and CEO of Futuro Media Group, and the anchor and executive producer of Latino USA, as well as co-host of “In The Thick,” Futuro Media’s award-winning political podcast.
She was part of the team that won the 2022 Pulitzer prize in audio reporting for the podcast “Suave.” Hinojosa also authored the memoir “Once I Was You.” NAHJ New England VP Cristela Guerra of WBUR moderated the June 16 En hora buena event.
